A thirteen-member delegation of “July warriors” held a meeting with the National Consensus Commission (NCC) at the LD Hall of the Parliament on Monday to discuss different issues.
NCC Vice-Chairman Ali Riaz, and members Dr Badiul Alam Majumdar, Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Dr Mohammad Ayub Miah, and Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Monir Haider were present during the meeting.
During the discussion, “July warriors” informed the NCC that despite holding health cards, many of them have been denied medical treatment at various hospitals since Eid-ul-Azha.
They described the situation as “deeply unfortunate and inhumane.” They urged the NCC to draw the attention of the health adviser to issue a written directive to all hospitals to ensure medical treatment for the injured July warriors under all circumstances.
They also emphasised the need for legal protection for members of the July fighters’ families and stressed the importance of issuing official identity cards to every July fighter.
The July warriors clarified that their presence at the South Plaza of the Parliament during the signing ceremony of the July Charter on 17 October was solely to press for their legitimate demands, not to cause chaos or violence.
However, they said a group of outsiders infiltrated the gathering and were involved in clashes and vandalism.
Expressing regret and apologising for the incident, they sought the NCC’s assistance in withdrawing the four cases filed over the violence.
The NCC assured them that all their demands and concerns would be taken into serious consideration and communicated to the relevant authorities. The NCC also pledged to support steps towards resolving the issues raised by the July warriors.
The delegation of the “July fighters” includesa Md Sohag Mahmud, Kamrul Hasan, Md Al-Amin, Mustain Billah Habibi, Hasibul Hasan Jisan, Marufa Maya, Ahadul Islam, Majedul Haque Shanto, Md. Sagor Uddin, Md Dulal Khan, Md Nahiduzzaman, Imran Khan, and Nusrat Jahan.
