Relatives of July Uprising victims, student leaders, and activists gathered on the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) premises on Monday morning ahead of the verdict in a landmark case tied to the July mass uprising.
Among those present were Mir Mahbubur Rahman Snigdho, brother of slain activist Mir Mahfuzur Rahman Mugdha; Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (Ducsu) Vice President Sadik Kayem; Inqilab Mancha spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi; as well as several individuals injured during the July uprising.
The tribunal is set to deliver its verdict Monday in the case filed against three accused, former prime minister Sheikh Hasina, former home minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, and former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al-Mamun, over crimes against humanity allegedly committed during the July uprising.
Security has been intensified in and around the tribunal ahead of the announcement.
Proceedings from the courtroom of International Crimes Tribunal-1 are scheduled to be broadcast live. This marks the first case concerning killings and alleged crimes against humanity committed during the July mass movement.
The three-member bench of Tribunal-1, led by Justice Golam Mortuza Mojumdar, will deliver the verdict. The other members of the panel are Justice Md Shafiul Alam Mahmud and Judge Md Mohitul Haque Enam Chowdhury.
Of the three accused, Sheikh Hasina and Asaduzzaman Khan are currently absconding.
