Students of Jahangirnagar University have blocked the Dhaka–Aricha highway demanding a more reasonable schedule for the written examination of the 47th BCS.
Around 12:15pm on Tuesday, students who passed the preliminary exam took position in front of the university’s main gate at the Dairy Gate area, causing traffic on the highway to come to a halt within a short time.
This led to severe suffering for the public, with long tailbacks forming from Dairy Gate to Radio Colony. A similar situation developed on the route toward Nabinagar.
A passerby, expressing frustration, said, “I was supposed to go to Baipail. I got off the bus after seeing the jam and walked here. Now I don’t know how long I’ll have to stand.”
Raihan, a student of the 46th batch from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, said, “We have stayed silent until now. But the exam schedule was announced in such a rush that we were forced to take to the streets. Previously we used to get six months; why is there so little time this year? This is unfair to us.”
“We understand the suffering caused to the public, but unless the decision is changed, we cannot accept this discrimination. We only want what is fair. We just need a bit more preparation time,” he added.
After nearly one hour and forty-five minutes of blockade, students withdrew around 2pm, and traffic on the Dhaka–Aricha highway gradually began returning to normal.
