The government has appointed two new Pro-Vice-Chancellors at Jahangirnagar University (JU).
Prof Dr Md Shamsul Alam of the Department of Government and Politics has been named pro-vice-chancellor (academic), while Prof Dr Mohammad Nazrul Islam of the Department of Mathematics has been appointed pro-vice-chancellor (administration).
The Ministry of Education issued separate notifications in this regard on Saturday.
According to the notification, the appointments will be effective for a four-year term starting from their respective dates of joining. However, if they reach the age of retirement before the completion of the four-year tenure, their responsibility will conclude on that date.
As per the terms of the appointment, the new Pro-Vice-Chancellors will receive salaries, allowances, and other benefits as per the rules and are required to reside permanently on the university campus. They will also exercise the powers and perform the duties as prescribed by the university’s laws and statutes.
The notification further specified that the President and Chancellor of the university reserve the right to cancel these appointments at any time in the public interest.
