Amar Desh journalist Zahidur Rahman was beaten up and injured in an attack at the BNP chairperson’s Gulshan office in the capital on Sunday afternoon.
During the attack, his mobile phone was seized and broken while recording a video of a dispute among BNP nomination seekers from Sylhet division.
Witnesses said Zahidur and several other reporters were injured in the attack carried out allegedly by the BNP leaders and activists
BNP sources said the matter was immediately brought to the attention of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.
He expressed deep concern and instructed an immediate investigation and disciplinary action against the attackers.
“This is an unfortunate incident. We are already aware of it, and those involved will be identified and held accountable,” said BNP Media Cell Convener Moudud Hossain Alamgir Pavel.
Following the attack, Fakhrul issued a formal statement to the media expressing his sincere regret to the journalists.
