The Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority has secured another milestone investment as Journey Outdoors Bangladesh Company Limited joined as the 50th investor in the BEPZA Economic Zone at Mirsharai in Chattogram.
Journey Outdoors Bangladesh, backed by investors from Singapore and China, will invest $27.57 million to establish a high-end garment and outdoor products manufacturing plant in the zone, the authority said in a statement on Tuesday.
The lease agreement was signed at the BEPZA Complex in Dhaka between Member for Investment Promotion Md Ashraful Kabir and Managing Director of Journey Outdoors Bangladesh Han JunXiao, in the presence of BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain.
The new facility will produce about 16 million pieces of premium apparel and outdoor goods each year. The product line will include T-shirts, polo shirts, jackets, trousers, jeans, yoga and golf wear, as well as accessories such as backpacks, tents, sleeping bags, gloves and scarves.
Officials said the project will create employment for 3,467 Bangladeshi nationals once production begins.
BEPZA Executive Chairman Major General Mohammad Moazzem Hossain said the authority is grateful to Journey Outdoors Bangladesh for selecting the BEPZA Economic Zone as its investment destination.
He said BEPZA remains dedicated to ensuring world-class facilities, investor-friendly policies and a secure industrial environment to support sustainable business growth.
With the latest agreement, the BEPZA Economic Zone has now drawn total proposed investments worth $1.11 billion from 50 companies. Officials said the achievement underscores Bangladesh’s growing appeal as a destination for global manufacturers and reflects the zone’s emergence as a competitive industrial hub in South Asia.
Senior BEPZA officials, including Member for Engineering Abdullah Al Mamun, Member for Finance ANM Foyzul Haque, Executive Director for Enterprise Services Md Khorshid Alam, Executive Director for Administration Samir Biswas and Executive Director for Public Relations ASM Anwar Parvez, were present at the signing ceremony along with representatives from Journey Outdoors Bangladesh Company Limited.
