Miscreants have attacked a journalist named Iqbal Hossain in Moghbazar, Dhaka. He is currently undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital after sustaining serious injuries in the incident.
Iqbal Hossain is a digital reporter for an IP TV channel called Kadar TV.
According to Hatirjheel Thana sources, when he attempted to enter the Kadar TV office located at Razzak Plaza in Mogbazar after Iftar on Tuesday, 8-10 unidentified individuals attacked him at the behest of local Awami League activists and drug peddlers Delowar Hossain Delu, Alamgir Hossain, and Jahangir Hossain.
During the attack, he sustained injuries to his head, chest, and various parts of his body.
Hatirjheel Thana Officer-in-Charge (OC) Golam Mortuza said that the process of filing a case regarding the attack on the journalist is ongoing.
After receiving initial treatment at Mugda Medical College Hospital, he was referred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Dr Nilufa Yasmin of the emergency department at Mugda Medical College Hospital said Iqbal Hossain was sent to Dhaka Medical College Hospital due to internal injuries.
Dr Rakib Ul Hasan of the emergency department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital said Iqbal Hossain has signs of injuries from heavy and sharp objects on his head and chest. His teeth have fallen out and his hearing in one ear has been damaged due to the assault.
Victim Iqbal Hossain said that when he got into the elevator to enter his office after completing news collection work, the attackers entered the elevator and started beating him repeatedly. They then dragged him, attempting to take him to the building’s rooftop to kill him.
When he tried to run to save his life, more people joined them, attacking him with knives.
