Three individuals, including Barjis Shabnam Borsha, a student of the victim, have given confessional statements in court in connection with the murder of Jagannath University (JnU) student and Chhatra Dal leader Md Jobayed Hossain.
The statements were recorded on Tuesday in three separate courts under the Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate. The other two accused are Md Mahir Rahman, 19, and his friend Fardin Ahammed Aylan, 20.
Additionally, an eyewitness, Pritam Chandra Das, also gave a statement before the court. Following the proceedings, all three accused were sent to jail.
Bangshal Police Station Sub-Inspector Md Ashraf Hossain, also the investigation officer in the case, submitted the petition to record the confessions.
Tanvir Morshed Chowdhury, sub-inspector and official from the general recording branch of the police station confirmed that confessional statements from the three accused and one witness had been formally documented.
Earlier in the day, around 10am, the victim’s brother, Enayet Hossain Saikat, filed a murder case with Bangshal Police Station.
According to the case statement, Jobayed Hossain, a university student, also worked as a private tutor. On 19 October, around 4:30pm, he went to tutor Barsha at Roushan Villa, located at Holding No. 15, Nur Box Lane, in Ward 31 of the Bangshal area, a visit he made regularly.
At around 5:48pm that evening, Borsha sent a message via Facebook Messenger to Jobayed’s friend Saikat, stating, “Jobayed has been murdered. Someone has killed him.”
Later, around 7pm, Jagannath University student Md Kamrul Hasan phoned Enayet Hossain to inform him of the incident. Enayet, along with his brother-in-law Sharif Mohammad, rushed to Roushan Villa by motorcycle, arriving at around 8:30pm.
As they ascended the stairs, they noticed blood stains on the walls and steps. On reaching the eastern side of the staircase near a third-floor room, they found Jobayed ‘s body lying in a pool of blood.
Following an autopsy, the victim was buried on 20 October in his native village of Krishnapur, Cumilla.
