Jagannath University (JnU) has decided to discontinue the practice of holding online classes and other virtual activities on Thursdays, citing an improvement in the fuel supply situation. Full in-person academic operations will resume from 7 June, following the Eid-ul-Adha holidays.
The decision was reached on Wednesday morning during the 79th emergency meeting of the university’s Academic Council. The session, presided over by Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rais Uddin, was held at the conference room of his office.
According to meeting sources, online classes were initially introduced on Thursdays as an emergency measure to reduce expenditure during the global fuel crisis while ensuring that students’ academic progress remained uninterrupted.
With the situation now improving, the university administration has opted to return to normal academic functioning.
The meeting was attended by Treasurer Professor Dr Sabina Sharmin, alongside directors of various institutes, deans of faculties, departmental chairmen, the registrar, the controller of examinations, the proctor, the director of student welfare, and the librarian, among other officials.
Addressing the council, Vice-Chancellor Dr Md Rais Uddin explained that the online arrangements were a temporary measure to mitigate academic losses during the fuel crisis. He noted that the improvement in the country’s current fuel situation has enabled the university to revert to its standard schedule.
The vice-chancellor further emphasised that every member of the university must discharge their duties with responsibility and transparency. He remarked that Jagannath University would continue to excel if a fair and positive academic environment is maintained.
Additionally, it was announced that progress review meetings regarding regular academic activities will henceforth be organised every month.
