The Dewan Bari–Kakabo–Dattapara–DSC road in Ashulia was officially inaugurated on 20 May, marking a key milestone in the region’s development, officials said in a press release. The project, implemented by Daffodil Smart City and Daffodil International University, combined private funding with government budget allocation and technical support from the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) to improve transportation infrastructure.
Dewan Mohammad Salauddin, Member of Parliament for Dhaka-19 (Savar-Ashulia), attended as chief guest. Distinguished guests included Professor Mohammad Masum Iqbal, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Daffodil International University, Mohammad Nadir Bin Ali, Registrar, and Sheikh Muhammad Allaiyar, Proctor of the university. Local representatives, academicians, business leaders, and community members were also present.
The new road will enhance connectivity for residents, students, employees, and businesses, ensuring faster and safer access to educational institutions, marketplaces, workplaces, and service centres. MP Salauddin said the development not only improves transportation but also contributes to economic growth, expanding opportunities in education, business, and employment, and said Ashulia is poised to become a modern and well-planned region.
Md Sabur Khan, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Daffodil International University, said the initiative aims to improve quality of life, create employment, and build an inclusive smart community. “By integrating education, technology, and community participation, Ashulia can advance socially and economically,” he said in a press statement.
The project aligns with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in education, economic growth, innovation, infrastructure, and sustainable urban development. Organizers highlighted that continued collaboration between public and private sectors and active community participation will drive Ashulia toward becoming a model for smart, inclusive, and sustainable urban development in Bangladesh.
Stakeholders noted that the improved road will generate new opportunities in transport, local businesses, and service sectors while supporting planned urbanisation and modern infrastructure development. The inauguration represents both a practical infrastructure upgrade and a symbolic step in Ashulia’s transformation into a knowledge-based and people-centric urban area.
