The Jagannath University (JnU) administration has formed a four-member investigation committee to probe allegations of “anti-state secret activities” involving 68 faculty members.
According to sources from the University Registrar’s office on Thursday, the committee was formed to investigate a report recently published in the newspaper “Asia Post” concerning the alleged involvement of 68 JnU teachers in clandestine anti-state activities.
Professor Dr Nasir Ahmad of the Department of History has been appointed as the convener of the investigation committee.
The other members are Professor Dr Muhammad Jamir Hossain of the Department of Chemistry and Associate Professor Md Mesbah-ul-Azam Sawdagar of the Department of Political Science.
Md Abdul Malek, section officer (grade-2) of the Registrar’s Office, has been named the member secretary.
The committee has been directed to submit its investigation report by 13 August. The scope of the committee’s work includes identifying the teachers involved in anti-state activities, determining the course of action, and providing necessary recommendations.
Moreover, in line with the allegations published in the “Asia Post,” the committee will investigate whether the concerned teachers were involved in suppressing the anti-discrimination student movement or threatening students during the tenure of the previous government.
