The Jagannath University (JnU) unit of the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal on Tuesday held a sit-in programme and a protest march against the activities of the banned Awami League on the party’s founding anniversary.
Leaders and activists of the student organisation gathered in front of the university’s main gate on Tuesday morning to carry out the programme. This followed a night of high alert maintained by the organisation’s members within the campus and its surrounding areas on Monday.
Following the sit-in, a protest procession was brought out at noon, which paraded through various roads of the university before concluding with a brief rally. During the march, Chhatra Dal activists chanted slogans against the Awami League and expressed their opposition to the political activities of the banned organisation.
Speaking at the event, JnU Chhatra Dal Convener Mehedi Hasan Himel said the politics of the “fascist” Awami League has become a threat to Bangladesh’s democracy, voting rights, and human rights. He asserted that the student community would thwart any ill-attempts by the organisation, which was banned in the face of a mass movement.
He further added that there is no room for terrorism, occupation, or fascist politics on the JnU campus, warning that any attempts to create chaos under the banner of the Awami League would be met with a fitting response alongside general students.
JnU Chhatra Dal Member Secretary Shamsul Arefin remarked that members of the banned organisation were attempting to hold programmes in various locations to mark 23 June.
He declared that no “evil force” would be permitted to rise against the spirit of the mass uprising and that Chhatra Dal remains committed to maintaining a peaceful environment on campus. He emphasised that Chhatra Dal, which believes in the politics of education, unity, and progress, continues to work for the rights of students.
The programme saw the participation of JnU Chhatra Dal 1st Joint Convener Sumon Sardar, and Joint Conveners Md Shahriar Hossain, Rafiqul Islam, Nahian Bin Onik, Robiul Awal, Shahadat Hossain, Sakhawat Islam Parag, Ahsan Mollik, Amirul Islam, Ariful Islam, Akash, and Yasin Arafat.
Nawab Faizunnesa Choudhurani Hall Chhatra Dal President and General Secretary, along with various levels of activists, were also in attendance.
