Eighteen “teen gang members” were caught by activists of Jatiotabadi Chatradal (JCD) in Noakhali town on Friday evening and handed over to police.
Mohammad Towhidul Islam, officer-in-charge of Noakhali Sadar Model Police Station, confirmed the matter and said their identities and the allegations are being verified.
Legal action will be taken after the investigation, he said.
According to local sources, there have been allegations that members of multiple teen gangs were involved in various chaotic activities in different areas of the district town. This situation had created a sense of anxiety among local businessmen and pedestrians.
Several leaders of the JCD were present during the incident, including President of the Noakhali District JCD Committee NBS Russel, General Secretary Ziaur Rahman Rahan, General Secretary of Noakhali Government College JCD Safratul Islam Nabil, and President of Noakhali Municipality JCD Md Anas.
Russel said, “Chhatra League (BCL) is being organised under the guise of teen gangs. There are multiple teen gang groups in the district. We want the police to take legal action.”
Rahan added, “Common people are fed up with the dominance of teen gangs. We have taken this initiative to maintain peace and order in society and to keep the youth away from criminal activities.”
