A 65-year-old woman died after being hit by a covered van in the Jatrabari area of the capital on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Amena Begum, wife of Soloman Dewan. She was a resident of the Mahamaya area in Chandpur Sadar Upazila.
According to the victim’s grandson, Md Jabed, the accident occurred around 9.30pm on the road adjacent to the Jatrabari fish market. Amena was hit by a Sundarban Courier Service covered van while she was attempting to cross the road.
She was rescued in a critical condition and rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where the attending doctors pronounced her dead at around 2am.
Citing the doctor, Md Faruk, in-charge of DMCH police camp confirmed the death.
