Jarif Abrar has created history by becoming the first Bangladeshi to win the boys’ singles title at the World Tennis Tour Juniors J-30 tournament, held in Rajshahi. This landmark victory is particularly significant, as all previous singles titles in this competition had been claimed by foreign players.
The tournament, hosted at the Rajshahi Tennis Complex from 4 to 10 October, featured 38 boys and 20 girls from ten different countries. In the boys’ singles final, Jarif overcame Thailand’s top seed, Napat Pattanalarthan, in straight sets, winning 7-6(3), 6-4.
Currently based in the United States, Jarif is pursuing higher education while training under coach Alex in Florida. Returning home, he represented Bangladesh on the international stage and secured this notable victory.
In other events of the tournament, Bangladeshi players were unable to reach the finals. The boys’ doubles and both girls’ singles and doubles titles were won by players from Thailand, China, and the Maldives respectively.
Jarif’s win marks a new milestone in the country’s tennis history and highlights the growing potential of Bangladeshi athletes in global competitions.
