Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has sought the assistance of the United Nations in holding a credible national election.
The party made the request during a meeting between Jamaat Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman and UN Resident Representative Gwyn Lewis in Dhaka’s Bashundhara area on Tuesday.
Following the meeting, Jamaat Secretary General Mia Golam Parwar briefed reporters about the discussion.
He said, “We have also urged the United Nations to play an active role in ensuring regional stability, particularly in resolving the Rohingya repatriation issue and the ongoing crisis in the hill tracts.”
Parwar further said, Lewis inquired about Jamaat’s position regarding the upcoming national election. “Our Ameer informed that while political parties have limited scope to intervene directly in the Rohingya issue, Jamaat remains committed to playing a positive and constructive role,” he added.
