Italy has expressed strong interest in importing quality products from Bangladesh, including ready-made garments, food items, and leather goods, as the two nations discussed ways to further strengthen bilateral ties.
The interest was conveyed by Italian Ambassador to Bangladesh Antonio Alessandro during a courtesy call on Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir at the Prime Minister’s Tejgaon office on Sunday.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed expanding trade into new sectors. The Italian ambassador also invited Bangladesh to purchase advanced technology and industrial machinery from Italy, which could play an important role in the modernisation of the country’s industrial sector.
To deepen cultural relations, the Italian side proposed arranging visits and friendly matches by renowned Italian football clubs in Bangladesh. Emphasis was also placed on increasing people-to-people contact and strengthening cultural exchange between the two nations.
Discussions were also held on further expanding ongoing cooperation between Bangladesh and Italy to facilitate safe and regular migration management.
Both sides expressed their commitment to take Bangladesh-Italy relations to new heights and voiced optimism about further strengthening cooperation in trade, military affairs, culture, sports and migration in the future.
Deputy Head of the Italian Mission Federico Zamparelli was also present at the meeting.
