Gaza’s civil defence authority said Israeli forces carried out waves of air raids and shelling overnight in Gaza City and elsewhere in the enclave, defying US President Donald Trump’s call to suspend bombardments after Hamas agreed to elements of a peace deal.
At least 20 people were killed across the territory since dawn on Saturday, according to the agency’s spokesman Mahmud Bassal. He said dozens of strikes destroyed 20 houses during what he described as “a very violent night, ”reports agencies and Al Jazeera.
Medical facilities confirmed multiple casualties. Gaza City’s Baptist Hospital reported receiving victims from a strike on a home in Tuffah neighbourhood, including four people killed and several others wounded.
In Khan Younis, Nasser Hospital said two children were among the dead and eight others were hurt when a drone attack hit a tent sheltering displaced families.
The latest fatalities came just hours after Trump publicly ordered Israel to stop bombing Gaza to allow the safe release of hostages under his plan. But residents and officials said the bombardments continued unabated.
