The Internet Service Providers Association of Bangladesh (ISPAB) has strongly condemned recent attacks, vandalism, looting and extortion targeting internet service provider organisations across the country, calling for urgent protection of the sector’s infrastructure.
At a press conference on Sunday at its office in Banani, ISPAB leaders expressed deep concern over what they described as a growing wave of violence against the industry.
ISPAB President Mohammad Aminul Hakim said that on the night of 9 June, the headquarters of Dot Internet in Lalmatia, Mohammadpur, came under attack. He added that coordinated attacks were also carried out on service providers in Badda, Chandpur Sadar, Debidwar in Cumilla, Gazipur and Bogura.
He said the incidents were not merely attacks on individual companies but a direct assault on the country’s information technology backbone and digital economy.
According to him, groups of attackers entered offices, causing extensive damage and looting equipment, while several employees and officials were injured. He warned that the destruction of critical infrastructure had created serious concerns over security, investment and service continuity in the sector.
In response, ISPAB has submitted a six-point demand to the authorities, with the immediate identification and arrest of those involved and exemplary punishment being the top priority.
The association also urged the government to recognise internet and IT infrastructure as a critical national asset, calling for enhanced security measures and preventive steps to avoid further incidents. It further demanded support for affected organisations and swift action from local police stations.
Hakim said ensuring the security of IT institutions was essential for Bangladesh’s digital transformation and the growth of a technology-driven economy, warning that failure to do so would harm both investment and service delivery. He expressed hope that law enforcement agencies would act quickly to investigate and bring those responsible to justice.
Other ISPAB leaders present at the briefing included Secretary General Nazmul Karim Bhuiyan, Vice-President Niamul Haque Khan, Joint Secretary Generals Mahbub Alam Raju and Fuad Mohammad Sharfuddin, Treasurer Moin Uddin Ahmed, and Directors Rashedur Rahman Rajon, Md Mithu Howlader, Sabbir Ahmed, Raisul Islam Tuhin, Md Zubair Islam and SM Saiful Islam Selim.
