Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who has been mediating negotiations, announced that the ceasefire takes effect immediately, BBC reports.
He said, “With the greatest humility, I am pleased to announce that the Islamic Republic of Iran and the United States of America, along with their allies, have agreed to an immediate ceasefire everywhere, including Lebanon and elsewhere — effective immediately.”
Sharif welcomed the move and invited delegations to Islamabad on Friday, 10 April, “to further negotiate a conclusive agreement to settle all disputes.”
He added, “Both parties have displayed remarkable wisdom and understanding, remaining constructively engaged in furthering the cause of peace and stability.”
Concluding his remarks, the prime minister expressed hope that the “Islamabad Talks” would achieve sustainable peace, promising to share more good news in the coming days.
