Information and Broadcasting Minister Zahir Uddin Swapon left Dhaka on an official visit to China on Saturday at the invitation of the Chinese government.

Ahead of his departure, Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen paid a courtesy call on the minister at the VIP lounge of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The two officials held brief discussions on issues related to the upcoming visit.

During his visit, Minister Swapon is scheduled to participate in the 5th CMG Forum, organised by China Media Group, which will run from 8 to 11 June.

The programme also includes a key bilateral meeting with the Chinese Information Minister. The discussions are expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in the media and information management sectors, the development of digital communication systems, and the exchange of information between the two countries.

Policy-level talks are also planned regarding a potential Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Bangladesh and China on information management, aimed at further institutionalising bilateral collaboration in the sector.
