Police handed over the body of an Indian national recovered from the Manu River in Kulaura of Moulvibazar to Indian authorities through the Chatlapur land port on Thursday afternoon.
The deceased was identified as Nityananda Malakar, 35, a resident of Kailashahar in India’s Tripura state.
Kulaura Police Station Officer-in-Charge Moniruzzaman Molla confirmed the matter.
Police and local sources said locals spotted the body floating in the Manu River on Monday afternoon and informed police.
Later, police identified the deceased through verification of his identity.
After confirming the identity, Kulaura police contacted Indian authorities and completed the required legal procedures before formally handing over the body.
Representatives from the land port authorities of Bangladesh and India, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), Border Security Force (BSF) and police officials from both countries were present during the handover process.
