India wants to work closely with new Bangladesh govt: Verma

Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Pranay Verma has expressed New Delhi’s keen interest in working closely with the new government of Bangladesh to further expand and invigorate bilateral co-operation.

The high commissioner shared these views following a courtesy meeting with the Local Government, Rural Development and Co-operatives Minister Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday.

Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Verma stated that India’s objective is to move forward with a positive and constructive relationship based on mutual interest and benefit.

He highlighted that the discussions centered on strengthening a future-oriented partnership while honouring the historical ties between the two nations.

The meeting also involved an exchange of views on enhancing people-oriented co-operation in various sectors, including development, technology exchange, digital inclusion, and the strengthening of the local government system.

High Commissioner Verma added that India supports a democratic, progressive, and inclusive Bangladesh and remains committed to continuing dialogue and co-operation in all areas of mutual interest.
