India will resume issuing tourist visas for Bangladeshis from 28 June, nearly two years after suspension.

Dinesh Trivedi, India’s new High Commissioner to Dhaka, announced the decision to the reporters on Thursday after visiting the Indian Visa Application Centre in Dhaka.

He also said that the tourist visas will initially be issued from five visa centres, with the rest to follow later. The centres are Dhaka, Chattogram, Khulna, Sylhet, and Rajshahi.

Following the fall of Sheikh Hasina’s government and the resulting nationwide instability, all visa application centres were temporarily closed on 4 August 2024.

Later, as diplomatic and law‑and‑order conditions deteriorated, operations of Indian visa centres and tourist visa issuance were fully suspended from December last year.
