Veteran Bangladeshi actor and Nirapad Sarak Chai (NISCHA) chairman Ilias Kanchan is set to return to London on Wednesday, 12 August, after a brief stay in Bangladesh following more than 15 months of medical treatment in the UK.
Kanchan returned home on 3 August, receiving an emotional welcome from colleagues, friends and well-wishers.
Since then, several members of the film industry, along with fans and journalists, have visited him at his Gulshan residence.
His son Mirajul Moin Joy has been by his side throughout the visits, welcoming guests and helping them speak with his father.
Joy said he has long witnessed the love and respect his father receives as an actor, but this visit allowed him to experience that affection more closely.
Kanchan will leave for London on Wednesday morning. According to Joy, his treatment has been continuing while he stays at his daughter Ema Islam’s home in Barking, east London.
After returning, he will resume treatment at Mount Vernon Hospital.
Kanchan has been undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.
He underwent surgery at a London hospital in August 2025, during which doctors removed a significant portion of the tumour.
However, they could not remove it completely because of the associated risks. He was later diagnosed with brain cancer.
Following the surgery, he underwent several phases of treatment, including chemotherapy and oral therapy.
According to his family, he received more than 60 chemotherapy sessions over 12 weeks, followed by two three-month phases of oral therapy.
Altogether, he has undergone nearly 100 chemotherapy sessions across three phases.
After returning to London, Kanchan will undergo further CT scans and an MRI as part of his ongoing treatment.
Speaking on 9 August, Kanchan said he was feeling better after returning home and was happy to meet the people who had visited him.
“I feel a little more comfortable today after coming home. I slept very well. Many people have been coming to see me and talk to me, and it feels wonderful,” he said.
At this stage of his life, Kanchan said his only wish was for people to pray for his recovery so that he could complete his treatment and return to Bangladesh soon.
“I feel happiest when I am in my own country,” he said.
Joy also asked everyone to pray for his father.
“My father’s smile is my strength. Seeing him happy makes me happy too. Please pray for my beloved father,” he said.
