Inspector General of Police (IGP) Baharul Alam has directed field-level officers to take strict action against extortion, mugging and drug-related crimes.
“Normal law and order must be maintained at any cost,” he said.
“Anyone involved in extortion, terrorism or drug offences must face legal action, regardless of political affiliation,” he added.
The IGP issued the directives at a virtual meeting on Sunday afternoon from Police Headquarters with all unit heads, Metropolitan Police Commissioners, Range Deputy Inspectors General and district Superintendents of Police.
He said no activities of banned political parties will be allowed.
“Any attempt to create disorder must be dealt with in accordance with the law,” he added.
The IGP instructed Highway Police to take firm measures to prevent robberies on highways. “Highway robbery must be stopped at any cost,” he said.
He also directed district police to work alongside highway police to prevent highway robberies.
Additional Highway Police concerned were present at Police Headquarters during the meeting.
