Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Minister Dipen Dewan has announced plans to bring the Chittagong Hill Tracts under a zero-tolerance policy against corruption and ensure a discrimination-free administration.
“I am not the ruler of the three hill districts but want to work as a servant,” he said.
He made the remarks on Sunday at an exchange meeting with the chairman and members of Khagrachhari Hill District Council at the Chittagong Hill Tracts Complex auditorium on Bailey Road in Dhaka.
The minister said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had entrusted him with the responsibility of ensuring services for the people of the three hill districts.
“No community in the Chittagong Hill Tracts will be left behind. Equal opportunities will be ensured for all by guaranteeing participation of every community,” he said.
He directed officials concerned to maintain transparency, accountability and sincerity in their work and to ensure equitable distribution of resources in the hill region.
Urging people not to pay heed to rumours, he advised all to work with a spirit of service and sought cooperation from all to make the hill region corruption-free.
Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Shefalika Tripura was also present at the event.
