The International Crimes Tribunal (ICT-1) has set 5 May for issuing an order on charge framing in a crimes against humanity case against former lawmaker Shamim Osman and 11 others over alleged atrocities in Narayanganj during the July mass uprising.
The tribunal fixed the date on Wednesday after state-appointed defence lawyers Md Ali Haider, Sheikh Mustavi Hasan and Amir Hossain sought discharge of their clients from the case. All accused remain absconding and are being tried in absentia.
The prosecution completed its arguments on 19 April, alleging that Shamim Osman and his associates were involved in crimes in which 10 people were killed in Fatullah and Signboard areas of Narayanganj on 19 and 21 July and 5 August 2024.
Other accused in the case include Shamim Osman’s son Ayan Osman, his nephew Azmeri Osman, Ayan’s brother-in-law Minhaj Uddin Ahmed Diki, Shamim’s brother-in-law Tanvir Ahmed Titu, Raju Ahmed, Abdul Karim Babu, Kamrul Hasan Munna, Shah Nizam Uddin Ahmed, Shahdat Hossain Saju, Habibur Rahman Riad and Sohanur Rahman Shuvra.
The prosecution submitted the formal charge on 19 January 2026. After taking the charges into cognisance, the tribunal issued arrest warrants against the accused.
