The mobile phone of Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, has been hacked. His Facebook and WhatsApp accounts have also been compromised.
According to court sources, a glitch was noticed in his mobile phone on 17 March, but at that time he was unaware that the device was under security threat. Before he could fully comprehend the situation, his Facebook and WhatsApp accounts were taken over.
When he was unable to use the mobile phone on 22 March, he informed ICT prosecutor and digital forensics expert Tanvir Hasan Zoha about the matter. Later, Zoha removed the remote access software from the device.
Tanvir Hasan Zoha told TIMES of Bangladesh that this incident may have occurred due to the judge inadvertently clicking on a fraudulent link or downloading an unauthorised application.
He informed that for now, the mobile phone has been recovered. However, the judge’s Facebook and WhatsApp accounts have not yet been brought back under his control.
A letter has been sent from the International Crimes Tribunal on the same day to the Chairman of the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) seeking urgent measures regarding this matter. The letter requests that necessary action be taken within seven working days.
