The hacked Facebook account of Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, chairman of the International Crimes Tribunal-1, has been recovered. Tanvir Hasan Zoha, the Special Investigation Officer and Prosecutor of the Tribunal, confirmed the matter on Wednesday.
He stated that the chairman’s hacked Facebook account was officially returned on Tuesday night.
Efforts are currently underway to regain control of his WhatsApp account, which is expected to be recovered soon. Law enforcement agencies, however, have yet to arrest anyone in connection with the incident.
According to court sources, glitches first appeared on Justice Majumdar’s mobile phone on 17 March, though he did not initially realise the device had been compromised. His Facebook and WhatsApp accounts were taken over before the security risk was fully identified.
On 22 March, when he was no longer able to use the mobile phone, he informed Tanvir Hasan Zoha, who is also a digital forensic expert. Zoha subsequently removed remote control software from the device.
Tanvir Hasan Zoha told the Times of Bangladesh that the incident might have been caused by inadvertently clicking a fraudulent link or downloading an unauthorised application.
