The Institute of Chartered Secretaries of Bangladesh (ICSB) held a seminar titled “Sustainability Reporting: Regulations & Way Forward” at the BIM Auditorium in Dhaka on 13 June 2026, bringing together regulators, market participants and governance professionals to discuss evolving ESG standards and reporting requirements. The event focused on sustainability reporting frameworks, regulatory developments and the growing importance of environmental, social and governance compliance for corporate Bangladesh.
The seminar, organised in Dhaka on 14 June 2026, aimed to strengthen professional understanding of sustainability reporting practices and prepare companies for tighter disclosure and assurance expectations as global standards continue to evolve.
ICSB President Hossain Sadat FCS delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of Responsible Business Conduct in ensuring sustainable operations. He referred to OECD and ILO principles and stressed the increasing need for adoption of sustainability standards, mandatory reporting requirements and assurance certification across corporate entities.
The keynote presentation was delivered by Meer Sajed Ul Basher FCA, Sustainability and ESG Professional, who outlined the global evolution of sustainability reporting and its role in long-term value creation, improved corporate governance and stronger stakeholder confidence. He also underlined the expanding responsibilities of company secretaries in sustainability reporting, risk mitigation and addressing broader societal expectations.
Prof Dr Feroz Iqbal Faruque FCS, Chairman of the Sustainability and ESG Sub-Committee of ICSB, emphasised the importance of trust, ethics, professionalism and sustainability in corporate practices.
Nuzhat Anwar, Managing Director of Dhaka Stock Exchange PLC, said sustainability and ESG compliance are becoming essential for enhancing Bangladesh’s competitiveness and attracting foreign investment. She also stressed the need for capacity building and stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
Chowdhury Liakat Ali, Director of the Sustainable Finance Department at Bangladesh Bank, attended as special guest and shared updates on sustainable finance initiatives, IFRS S1 and S2 implementation and broader regulatory developments.
Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, Chairman of the Financial Reporting Council (FRC), attended as chief guest and highlighted the role of sustainability reporting in strengthening corporate accountability, transparency and investor confidence, according to a statement in a press.
The session was chaired by Mohammed Showket Iqbal FCS, Chairman of the Seminar and Conference Sub-Committee of ICSB, and moderated by Dr Mir Shariful Bashar FCS. It concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session involving ICSB members and corporate leaders.
