The Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested four Rohingyas, suspected to be involved with a human trafficking syndicate in the capital’s Motijheel area.
A DB-Cyber and Special Crime (South) Division team arrested the Rohingyas during a raid at a hotel in the Motijheel police station area at approximately 2pm on Thursday, based on a tip off.
The details were confirmed in a press release issued on Friday, by Arifa Akter Prity, assistant commissioner of police at the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Media and Public Relations Division.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Ferdous, Nuru Bibi Dur Akter, 19, Umme Kulsum, 20. A child was also detained. During the operation, law enforcement officials confiscated four mobile phones used for human trafficking and two printed copies of visas.
According to DB sources, the suspects admitted during primary interrogation that they have been involved in human trafficking activities for a long time. Following their arrest, a case was filed against them at Motijheel Police Station, and they have since been produced before a court.
