In the case filed over the double murder of a mother and daughter in the capital’s Mohammadpur, the accused housekeeper Ayesha’s husband, Rabbi Sikdar, has confessed to his responsibility and given a statement before the court.
On Monday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ripon Hossain’s court recorded his statement and ordered him sent to jail. He was produced before the court upon completion of his remand.
Following this, the investigation officer of the case and Sub-Inspector Shahidul Osman Masum of Mohammadpur Police Station applied to record his statement. Prior to this, on the morning of 10 December, housekeeper Ayesha and her husband Rabbi Sikdar were arrested from Charakaya village in Nalchity upazila, Jhalakathi.
The next day, on 11 December, Ayesha was granted a six-day remand and Rabbi a three-day remand.
The victim Laila Firoz’s husband, AJM Azizul Islam, filed the murder case at Mohammadpur Police Station on December 8.
The First Information Report (FIR) mentions that the accused Ayesha started working as a part-time housekeeper at the complainant Azizul Islam’s residence a few days prior to the murder, on 5 December.
On the morning of 8 December, at around 7am, Azizul left for his workplace in Uttara. Despite multiple attempts from his workplace to contact his wife’s mobile phone, he was unsuccessful. Subsequently, having no other option, he returned home at around 11am.
Upon arrival, he found his wife lying dead with cuts and other bloody wounds on her neck and various parts of her body, and his daughter with a cut on the right side of her neck, lying in a critically ill condition towards the main entrance to the apartment.
He took her immediately to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital with the help of caretaker Md Ashik. Upon being taken to the hospital, the duty doctor declared her dead.
In the FIR, he further states that upon reviewing the CCTV footage from the house, he observed the accused housekeeper Ayesha arriving for work at 7:51am and leaving at 9:35am, taking his daughter’s mobile phone, a laptop, gold ornaments, cash money, and other valuables.
