Power Grid Bangladesh PLC is expected to earn an additional Tk700 crore in annual revenue after the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) approved an increase in electricity transmission tariffs, improving the financial outlook for the country’s sole power transmission company.
According to a regulatory disclosure by the company, the revised wheeling charges will apply from the June 2026 billing period.
The tariff adjustment raises transmission charges by nearly 24 per cent across different voltage levels, allowing Power Grid to generate higher income from its transmission network.
The actual revenue increase will depend on the volume of electricity transmitted through the national grid, which is influenced by generation levels and consumer demand.
Power Grid is responsible for transporting electricity from generating stations to distribution companies.
These utilities pay wheeling charges for access to the transmission network, so any increase in tariffs directly impacts the company’s revenue stream.
Under the revised structure, the wheeling charge for 230-kV lines rises to Tk0.3789 per kilowatt-hour from Tk0.3057, for 132-kV lines to Tk0.3825 from Tk0.3086, and for 33-kV lines to Tk0.3897 from Tk0.3144.
The company said the tariff revision will strengthen cash generation capacity and improve earnings visibility in the coming years.
Power Grid shares closed 1.4 per cent higher at Tk35.1 on the Dhaka Stock Exchange on Thursday.
