The High Court (HC) has rejected the bail petition of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari in a case filed over the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram.
In addition, the HC kept four other bail pleas filed by the accused in separate cases pending for order, which the court will hear on Monday.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Sunday, plaintiff’s lawyer Md Raihanul Wazed Chowdhury told reporters.
Deputy Attorney General Syeda Shazia Sharmin and Assistant Attorneys General Md Humayun Kabir, Al‑Amin, Kawsar Alom Selim, Mohammad Nazmul Hasan and Md Mokhlesur Rahman appeared for the state during the hearing.
On the other hand, lawyer Apurba Kumar Bhattacharya, along with several others, represented Chinmoy.
According to case records, followers of Chinmoy allegedly hacked and beat to death Saiful, a member of the Bangladesh Supreme Court Bar Association and Chattogram District Bar Association, on 26 November 2024.
On the same day, separate cases were filed over attacks on police, vandalism of vehicles and other incidents.
