The High Court on Thursday fixed 10 May to deliver its verdict on the bail petitions of of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, spokesperson of Bangladesh Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote, in five cases, including the murder of lawyer Alif.
A High Court bench comprising Justice KM Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher set the date after concluding the hearing on a rule issued earlier in the matter.
Chinmoy’s lawyer, Apurba Kumar Bhattacharjee appeared for Chinmoy Das during the hearing.
The High Court had issued the rule on September 1 last year.
Court records show that Chinmoy Das was granted bail by the High Court on 30 April last year in a sedition case filed over allegations of disrespecting the national flag.
He was later shown arrested in five additional cases.
The legal proceedings against Chinmoy began after Chandgaon Mohra Ward BNP General Secretary Firoz Khan filed a sedition case with Kotwali Police Station in Chattogram on 31 October, 2024.
The case named 19 people, including Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari.
Chinmoy Krishna and several others were arrested in the case on 25 November, 2024.
The issue later triggered unrest at the Chattogram court premises on 26 November, 2025, after Chinmoy Das was denied bail in the sedition case.
During the clashes, lawyer Saiful Islam was beaten and hacked to death.
