In view of the heatwave, the chief justice has relaxed the black coat and gown dress code for lawyers and judges in the country’s lower courts.
The Supreme Court administration issued a notification on Tuesday under the Chief Justice’s instruction.
According to the order, judges of all subordinate civil and criminal courts and tribunals may wear black coats, or alternatively white full‑sleeve shirts, white sarees or salwar‑kameez with a white neck band or black tie. Gowns will not be required.
The directive takes effect Tuesday (7 April) and will remain in force until further notice.
