Health Minister Sardar Sakhawat Hossain on Friday said the government will take steps to ensure people no longer have to chase doctors for treatment, pledging to deliver healthcare services to their doorsteps.
“Doctors will reach out to the people. We have a commitment to deliver healthcare to the people’s doorsteps and we will fulfil it,” he told journalists after a view-exchange meeting with administration officials and party activists in Monohardi.
He said the government is determined to turn the Ministry of Health into a corruption-free institution in line with the Prime Minister’s directives.
“Many are talking about corruption. We are looking into the matter seriously and we will transform this ministry into a completely corruption-free one,” he said.
He also stressed the need to break syndicates within the health sector.
On local development, he said there are plans to establish a medical college in Narsingdi and discussions were held on the issue recently.
He expressed his intention to bring two intensive care unit facilities to the district.
The minister said he wants to build a Bangladesh rooted in the spirit of the Liberation War, rising above political divisions.
“I have an equal responsibility towards those who voted for me and those who did not,” he said.
