The High Court on Monday issued a rule asking the state to explain why former minister Dipu Moni should not be granted bail in five cases involving charges of murder and attempted murder.
A bench of Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Md Rafizul Islam issued the rule on Monday.
Advocates Ramzan Ali Shikdar and Gazi Faisal Islam appeared for Dipu Moni, while Deputy Attorney General Masudul Alam Doha represented the state.
Gazi Faisal Islam said the five cases include one each filed with Adabar, Badda and Gacha police stations in Gazipur, and two with Shahbagh Police Station.
He said the court has also set for hearing the rules previously issued in 16 other cases involving Dipu Moni.
Advocate Ramzan Ali Shikdar said 38 cases have been filed against Dipu Moni, including two pending before the International Crimes Tribunal.
Dipu Moni earlier served as foreign minister, education minister, and social welfare minister under the Awami League government.
After the administration fell on 5 August 2024 amid student‑public protests, police arrested her on the night of 19 August. She faces more than 38 cases, including charges of murder, crimes against humanity, corruption, and incitement to violence.
