Former minister Dipu Moni has been granted bail in one of seven cases filed with different police stations in the capital, while the High Court has issued a rule in the remaining six cases questioning why she should not be granted bail.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md Khairul Alam and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order on Wednesday following hearings on separate bail petitions.
Lawyer Ramzan Ali Sikder, who appeared for Dipu Moni, said the court granted her bail in a case filed with Mohammadpur Police Station.
In the other six cases, the court issued rules seeking explanations as to why bail should not be granted.
Dipu Moni had sought bail in seven cases filed at different police stations in Dhaka.
She previously served as foreign minister, education minister and social welfare minister in the former Awami League government.
She was arrested on 19 August, 2024, following the fall of the government on 5 August in the wake of a student-led mass uprising.
She is facing more than 38 cases, including charges of murder, crimes against humanity, corruption and incitement to violence.
