Sir Idris Elba, actor, rapper and DJ, was knighted by King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday in recognition of his services to young people, marking a significant honour for one of Britain’s most prominent cultural figures.

Photographs released by the Royal Family showed King Charles bestowing the knighthood on Elba during the ceremony. The images were shared on the Royal Family’s official Instagram account and captured the monarch touching a sword to the actor’s shoulders as he knelt before receiving the honour.

Elba, known internationally for his work in film and television, was accompanied by his wife, Sabrina Dhowre Elba, at the ceremony.

According to the Royal Family, the honour was awarded in recognition of Elba’s services to young people.

The actor has been involved in a range of initiatives aimed at supporting and empowering younger generations through charitable and community-based work.
