The High Court has granted bail to Mahbubur Rahman, former general secretary of Dhaka District Awami League and former chairman of Dhaka Zila Parishad, clearing the way for his release from custody.
A High Court bench comprising Justice Md. Khairul Alam and Justice AKM Rabiul Hasan passed the order on Monday.
Mahbubur Rahman was arrested on 16 December 2024. He was subsequently shown arrested in nine cases in phases, according to his lawyer, Motahar Hossain Saju, who represented the petitioner in court.
With the High Court granting bail in the final case, there is no longer any bar to his release, the lawyer said.
Earlier, the High Court had ordered that Mahbubur Rahman not be shown arrested in cases without specific charges, following which he secured bail.
The High Court order effectively removes all legal obstacles to his release from custody. Law enforcement authorities are expected to process his release accordingly.
