HBO has released a new teaser for its upcoming Harry Potter television series, offering a closer look at the young actors who will portray the students beginning their first year at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The series will adapt JK Rowling’s seven-book saga over seven seasons, with each season based on one of the novels.

The first season will follow the events of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and is scheduled to premiere on Dec. 25, 2026.

The eight-episode season introduces Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger.

The teaser shows the three friends arriving at Hogwarts, attending the Sorting Ceremony and discovering the magical world that will shape their lives.

It also features scenes from Harry’s early days at the school, including his participation in Quidditch and his investigation into the mystery surrounding the Philosopher’s Stone.

The footage also introduces several members of the Hogwarts staff. John Lithgow plays Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer portrays Professor Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu appears as Severus Snape and Nick Frost takes on the role of Rubeus Hagrid.

Other members of the cast include Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Rory Wilmot as Neville Longbottom, Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan, Elijah Oshin as Dean Thomas, Warwick Davis as Professor Filius Flitwick and Sirine Saba as Professor Pomona Sprout.

Francesca Gardiner is serving as showrunner, while Mark Mylod, known for his work on Succession, is directing multiple episodes.

Rowling is also an executive producer, alongside Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts and David Heyman.

The series is being filmed at Warner Bros Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom.

HBO has already renewed it for a second season, which will be based on Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The new television adaptation follows the success of the eight-film franchise, which starred Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson as Harry, Ron and Hermione.

HBO’s Harry Potter series will premiere on 25 December, 2026.
