A Dhaka court has deferred the submission of the supplementary investigation report in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Sharif Osman Hadi for the tenth time, setting 2 April as the new date.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Zoshita Islam set a new date on Wednesday after the investigation officer, Assistant Police Superintendent Abdur Qadir Bhuiyan, was unable to submit the report, confirmed SI Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution department.
Hadi, who played a key role in the July uprising and subsequent political movements, had announced his independent candidacy from Dhaka-8 for the 13th parliamentary elections.
On 12 December, he was attacked during a public outreach programme in Bijoynagar after Friday prayers. Despite being airlifted to Singapore for treatment, he succumbed to his injuries.
Following the attack, Inqilab Moncho’s member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber filed an attempted murder case on 14 December, which was later upgraded to a murder case under Section 302.
The investigation was handed over to the DB Police, who submitted a charge sheet on 6 January, naming 17 accused, including former ward councillor Taizul Islam Chowdhury Bappy and former Chhatra League activist Faisal Karim Masud.
The complainants expressed dissatisfaction with the charge sheet, and during the 12 January hearing, Abdullah Al Jaber requested two additional days to review it.
The court granted the request and scheduled the acceptance of the charge sheet for 15 January.
This week, the main suspects in the case, shooters Faisal and Alamgir, were arrested in Kolkata, India.
The government has announced plans to repatriate them to Bangladesh to face trial.
