Justice for Sharif Osman Hadi, the late convener and spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho, faced a further setback on Wednesday as a Dhaka court deferred the submission of supplemental investigation report for the 18th time.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam fixed 20 August as the new date for the report’s submission after Criminal Investigation Department (CID) failed to file it on the scheduled day.
The development was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Prosecution Department.
Hadi had announced his intention to contest 13th National Parliamentary Election as an independent candidate from Dhaka-8 constituency. He was shot in the capital’s Paltan area on 12 December 2025, just one day after the election schedule was announced.
Following the shooting, he was initially treated at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) and subsequently moved to Evercare Hospital. He was flown to Singapore on 15 December for advanced medical treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the night of 18 December while undergoing care there.
The legal proceedings began on 14 December, when Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Moncho, filed an attempted murder case at Paltan Police Station.
Following Hadi’s death, the matter was formally converted into a murder case. On 6 January, the Detective Branch (DB) of DMP submitted a chargesheet against 17 individuals, including Faisal Karim Masud.
However, the plaintiff filed a no-confidence (naraji) petition against DB’s findings. In response, the court directed CID to conduct a further investigation into the killing, a process that remains ongoing.
