New Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir has said that diplomatic efforts are underway to bring back from India the two suspects who were allegedly involved in the murder of Inqilab Moncho spokesperson Osman Hadi.
He made the remarks during a press conference at the Police Headquarters on Monday.
The IGP said, “Diplomatic efforts are in progress to bring Faisal and Alamgir, accused in Hadi’s murder, back to the country.”
He added that a list of extortionists and criminal gangs across the country has been prepared. “Operations against them will begin soon. Action will also be taken against mob violence and teenage gangs,” he said.
Faisal Karim Masud, the prime suspect in the killing, has been arrested in India along with an associate, Alamgir Hossain, and placed on 14 days’ remand for questioning by police in West Bengal.
According to Indian media reports, Faisal and Alamgir were detained on Sunday by members of the Special Task Force (STF) of West Bengal Police near the Bongaon border area.
Police said the two men are being interrogated on charges of illegal entry and residence in India.
