A Dhaka court has set 25 January for the submission of the investigation report in the murder case of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho.
Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Joshita Islam fixed the new date on Tuesday after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), which is handling the case, was unable to file the report on the scheduled date.
Sub-Inspector Ruknuzzaman of the prosecution confirmed the development.
Hadi, a prominent political activist who played a key role in the July uprising and subsequent political movements, had announced his candidacy as an prospective independent for the Dhaka-8 seat in the upcoming 13th National Parliamentary Election.
He was attacked on 12 December after Jumma prayers while conducting a public outreach programme in Bijoynagar.
Though airlifted to Singapore for advanced treatment, he succumbed to his injuries on 18 December.
On 6 January, the Detective Branch (DB) of police submitted a charge sheet naming 17 individuals in connection with Hadi’s murder. However, the Inqilab Moncho expressed dissatisfaction with the filing.
The case was originally scheduled for a hearing on 12 January, but Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inqilab Moncho and the complainant, requested two additional days to review the charge sheet.
The court granted the request and set 15 January for formal acceptance. On that day, Abdullah Al Jaber submitted a note of dissent regarding the DB Police charge sheet, after which the court directed the CID to take over the investigation.
