A Supreme Court lawyer has sent a letter to the government requesting the launch of a website containing information and photographs of missing and unidentified bodies.
Lawyer Salah Uddin Regan sent the letter to the home secretary on Tuesday.
The letter notes that on 17 January, a newspaper published a report headlined “643 Unidentified Bodies in Dhaka in One Year”. According to the report, 643 bodies recovered from different areas in 2025 were buried as unidentified in various cemeteries across the capital.
Of these, 461 bodies were buried at Rayerbazar and 175 at Jurain Graveyard, while the bodies of seven individuals of other religions were cremated at Postogola Mohashoshan. Based on this calculation, around 54 unidentified bodies are laid to rest each month.
Salah Uddin Regan said that if a website containing information and photographs of missing persons and unidentified bodies were made active, families of victims or the missing could easily access information about their loved ones.
