Sardar Md Sakhawat Husain has said the government has not withdrawn from its previous decision regarding Ad‑din Medical College Hospital.
The hospital authorities have given some compensation to the affected families, he said adding that the ministry will inspect the hospital again if necessary.
But the government will not step back from the earlier decision taken regarding the hospital, he said at a press conference at the Secretariat on Monday.
On 27 May, six newborns died within a few hours in the post‑operative ward of Ad‑din hospital in the early morning.
Following the incident, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) formed a three‑member investigation committee. The report identified multiple management flaws, environmental problems, and negligence by doctors and nurses responsible for the ward.
Later on 11 June, the DGHS cancelled Ad‑din hospital’s license over the sudden deaths of the six newborns.
At the press conference, the minister also addressed medical services during the flood situation. He said that leave for all health workers in 11 flood‑affected districts, including Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, and Feni, has been cancelled.
Measures have been taken at three levels to ensure healthcare services. The prime minister is constantly monitoring the entire matter.
