Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has reaffirmed the government’s stringent position against the Awami League, stating that legal action will be taken against members of the banned organisations who appear in public.
He made the remark while briefing reporters after a law and order meeting at the Ministry of Home Affairs in Dhaka.
Minister said the banned organisation has not been appearing publicly on a large scale, but law enforcement agencies are taking action whenever its members emerge in public.
Police are actively enforcing the ban and legal measures are being taken against those involved, he added.
Salahuddin Ahmed also announced that no decorative illuminations will be allowed across the country during the upcoming Independence and National Day on 26 March as part of an austerity drive.
The decision has been taken to conserve energy and resources amid the ongoing power and energy crisis, he said.
He also said the government will eliminate what he described as “mob culture” in the country.
However, he said not every violent incident should be labelled as mob violence.
Referring to the killing of a youth at a petrol pump in Jhenaidah, he said the incident should be treated as a “spot crime” rather than an example of mob violence.
